On a hill a few kilometres away is the centre of Vasto, which overlooks the Golfo d'Oro, a well-known bay containing the sandy beach of Vasto Marina.
The area is famous for its ‘Trabocchi’, wooden constructions similar to stilt houses, which were once used for fishing, but today are often transformed into restaurants where you can enjoy the catch of the day, along with other local delicacies.

If you are hoping for a relaxing holiday, yet also wish to discover the local area, then Villa Tagliaferri will not disappoint; its excellent location will allow you to quickly reach numerous nature reserves such as the Punta Aderci Regional Nature Reserve, with Punta Penna beach and the rocky promontory, which offers a breathtaking view; the Lecceta di Torino di Sangro Regional Nature Reserve (where the largest population of tortoises in the region lives), the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park, the third largest protected nature reserve in Italy, the Orfento Valley in the heart of the Majella National Park and the Stiffe Caves.

There are also plenty of cultural opportunities. In addition to the historic centre of Vasto with the Caldoresco Castle and the Palazzo d'Avalos, the medieval villages of Santo Stefano di Sessanio are also easy to get to. An architectural jewel that has remained largely unchanged, the Fortress of Civitella del Tronto, one of the largest and most majestic in Europe. The Hermitage of San Bartolomeo in Legio, which is set within a 50-metre rocky outcrop at 700 metres above sea level. Finally, the Rocca Calascio, a white stone fortification which stands at 1500 metres high, made famous as a filming location for a number of famous movies, including Ladyhawke and the Name of the Rose.

Sports enthusiasts will also find plenty to do; the owners of the villa manage a sports centre in the municipality of Vasto where you can play tennis and the fast growing sport of Padel tennis. Vignola beach is the ideal place to practise water sports (scuba diving and snorkelling). At the beach of Punta Penna, in the summer season, you can rent canoes and mountain bikes; there are various beautiful cycling routes, such as the Via Verde cycle path.
